THEN

A native of Sedalia, Missouri, tenor Brenton Ryan made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail while he was still a member of the LA Opera Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist program. He’s appeared on the Met stage every season since then, singing Spoletta in a new production of Tosca and Monostatos in Die Zauberlöte. Praised for his “grippingly strong characterizations” by the LA Times, Brent takes a great deal of enjoyment out of diving into the dramatic roles.

NOW

This season is packed with three role debuts and four new productions for the tenor who has been praised by The New York Times for his “fresh, clarion tone, and dramatic aplomb.” Brent sat down with us in San Francisco’s Dolores Park in between performances of le Nozze di Figaro to talk about the role art has to play in the greater social community, what audiences bring to a performance and what he’s most excited about in the upcoming season. Check it out in our PROfile below.
