About

Mezzo-soprano Isabel Signoret is praised for her “velvety voice” (Beckmesser) and “electric stage presence” (Kurier). She is a current Artist in Residence at the Wiener Staatsoper, where she previously served as a member of both the Ensemble and the Opera Studio. With a repertoire spanning from Monteverdi to Ligeti, she is recognized for her expressive musicianship, stylistic versatility, and a compelling dramatic presence on leading international stages.

The 2025–26 season opens with performances of Mozart’s Requiem with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, conducted by James Gaffigan. At the Wiener Staatsoper, she makes her role debut as Despina in Barrie Kosky’s production of Così fan tutte, conducted by Adam Fischer. She also returns to the house as Amando in Le Grand Macabre, the Page in Salome, and Muriel in Animal Farm.

During the 2024–25 season, Ms. Signoret made her Opéra national de Paris debut as Wellgunde in a new production of Das Rheingold, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and staged by Calixto Bieito. Additional appearances at the Wiener Staatsoper included Stephano in Roméo et Juliette with Marc Leroy-Calatayud, Cherubino in Kosky’s Le nozze di Figaro with Ivor Bolton, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, and Minerva in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria with Stefan Gottfried, in collaboration with Concentus Musicus Wien. She also joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra at theTanglewood Festival for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Her Career Highlights include extensive operatic appearances, notably her return to the Wiener Staatsoper as Amando in Le Grand Macabre with Jan Lauwers’s new production, and Muriel in Animal Farm Damiano Michieletto’s staging. Other roles there have included Minerva in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria in Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito’s new production with Concentus Musicus Wien, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni (including Barrie Kosky’s staging), Meg Page in Falstaff, and Lola in Cavalleria rusticana. Additional roles at the Staatsoper include Amore/Valetto in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Tisbe in La Cenerentola, Bersi in Andrea Chénier, Blumenmädchen in Parsifal, Mercédès in Carmen, and Fyodor in Boris Godunov.

On the concert stage, Ms. Signoret made her debut in Handel’s Messiah with the North Carolina Symphony and has also appeared with Merola Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Miami Music Festival. A dedicated advocate for Spanish and Latin American art song, she has presented recitals in both Europe and the United States, championing works by Spanish, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, and Argentinian composers in collaborations with both piano and guitar. Ms. Signoret holds a Master of Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree and a minor in History from the University of Michigan.

A dedicated advocate for Spanish and Latin American art song, she has presented recitals in both Europe and the United States, championing works by Spanish, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, and Argentinian composers in collaborations with both piano and guitar.
